ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Affordable Care for Every Pet
Palm Valley Animal Society's low-cost spay and neuter clinic serves families throughout Hidalgo County who want to do right by their pets but face financial barriers to veterinary care. By keeping costs low and making the process simple, we help prevent pet overpopulation and keep animals out of the shelter.
Each clinic runs over three days, giving more families a chance to participate. Appointments are first-come, first-served; spots fill quickly!

Complete the registration form to secure your spot. Payment is collected at the time of booking.

Drop off & Pick Up
Follow the arrival and pickup times on your registration confirmation. The September registration cards below list separate times for dogs and cats.

Opens at 10am every 1st of the month. Select the day that works for you. Each day has limited spots—register early!
SPOTS ARE LIMITED! Registration often sells out within the hour of opening! Dogs must arrive on leash, and cats in a carrier.

What to Bring
Proof of Rabies
Proof of Rabies is required for surgery. Services will be administered after payment if you do not have the rabies certificate.
Confirmation Receipt/Ticket
Bring your confirmation receipt/ticket for easiest and fastest check-in.
Carrier or Leash
Cats in a carrier (a must!), dogs on a leash. We will return the leash upon drop off.
Proof of Residency
McAllen Clinic only.
Utility bill, lease, or mail showing City of McAllen Residence.
FASTING REQUIRED: Withhold food & water for 8-12 hours before drop-off.

About the Clinic
What services are included in the registration fee?
The fee covers spay or neuter surgery, anesthesia, and basic post-operative care. Optional add-ons like rabies vaccination and take-home pain medication may be available for an additional fee — these will be listed on your registration form.
Who is eligible to participate?
As of May 1, 2026, the first two days of the Spay & Neuter Clinic will be open to all residents of the RGV. And due to our ongoing partnership with McAllen, TX, the last day of the clinic is open to all McAllen residents. Please reach out to your city officials if you would like your city to partner with Palm Valley Animal Society.
How often does PVAS hold this clinic?
As of May 1, 2026, PVAS holds this 3 day clinic once a month. Sign up through email & text below for annoucements on new dates and to be notified first when clinic days open—spots fill within the hour!
Preparing Your Pet
How do I prepare my pet the night before?
Withhold food & water for 8-12 hours before drop-off. Do not feed your pet the morning of the clinic. This is required for safe anesthesia.
Are there age or weight requirements?
Yes: pets must be at least 8 weeks old and weight at least 2 pounds to be safely sedated. There is no upper age limit, though very senior pets may be evaluated day of.

Can I bring multiple pets?
Yes, but each pet must have its own registration and payment. You're welcome to register multiple pets across the same or different days, subject to availability.
Day of the Clinic
What time should I arrive for drop off?
There are separate drop off times for both dogs and cats. Dog drop off begins at 8:30am. Cat drop off begins at 9:00am.
Late arrivals will not be accepted, no refunds will be given.
How long will my pet be at the clinic?
Most procedures are completed by the afternoon. Dogs can be picked up from 4:00-4:30pm. Cats can be picked up from 4:30-5:00pm.
We will not call you for pickup.
After Surgery
What does recovery look like at home?
Most pets are groggy for the first 12–24 hours after surgery. Keep them warm, quiet, and separated from other pets. Restrict activity for 7–10 days to let the incision heal. Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided at pickup.
When should I be concerned and contact a vet?
Contact a veterinarian if your pet has excessive swelling or discharge at the incision site, is not eating after 24 hours, has a fever, or shows signs of extreme lethargy or pain. If you have questions after the clinic, call our team directly.
Pricing
How much does the procedure cost?
Pricing starts at $75 for cats and $100 for dogs. Additional services like vaccinations, & microchips are available at extra cost. Services and pricing listed on registration form.
What if I need to cancel my registration?
If you need to cancel, please contact as early as one week before your appointment. Refunds will not be given to those that miss their appointment, no exceptions.
